Hello everyone, my name is Doug, I am from Long Island, NY, I’ve been playing golf for more than 40 years. Though I started when I was 12, I didn’t really start playing until I was in my 30’s. there were other things in my 20’s that occupied my time. Like most kids, my dad introduced me to the game. Golf is a game I have always loved playing with him, it took forever me to beat him. My dad was a very good golfer, Not sure he intended to on purpose, but he had a lot of gamesmanship in him, I was in my 30’s before I managed to beat him. One of his phrases he’d say when I was playing well during a round was, “The 10 is in there somewhere” finally when the 10 wasn’t in my game, he was genuinely happy, I had beaten him, that little competition I believe made me a better golfer. I had a decent game at one point. I was as a 5 handicap. I am now probably around a 10 or 12. We will see when I start playing again this year. I was introduced to a tournament called the Dupont World Amateur some years ago from some friends, I competed in this for 10 years in a row from 1999 – 2009, which allowed me to really feel what competitive golf could be like. I Stepped away from the game about 5 yrs ago, mostly from life’s happenings. This Blog was started after some encouragement from my wife, who has told me I need to start playing golf again, So I thank her for that. I am hoping this Blog contributes to helping me enjoy the game as I once did.
